We
started the vacation with a visit with my roommate from
sophomore year at Stanford, Ollie and his wife, Nancy and
son Maximillian. Nice view from their deck, eh?
The
drive to our little house overlooking Puget Sound took us
through a small fishing village on Lummi Island. |
A
small shack in the fishing village... |
...and
one of the older homes on the island. A definite fixer
upper... |
A
walk along the beach yielded views we'd like to remember...
...and
a walk through one of the sculpture gardens, this one of
wind and weather driven mobiles - Eleanor and Mary
Louise.... |
Looking north from Lummi Island |
A
couple of the year round residents of the island... |
Eleanor and Joseph... |
...making our lasagna dinner one night... |
Another sculpture garden, this one by Lummi Island resident,
Ann Morris, yielded surprising images in the clearings in
her ancient forest... |
...
most are lost-wax bronzes... |
...that left us imagining... |
...or
wondering... |
The
beaches yielded an infinite variety of sunsets... |
and
the calm waters were an invitation for skipping stones,
sometimes successfully! |
Our
rental house came with a hot tub which necessitated drinks
at sunset. |
We
discovered some dogwood blooming in a walk in the forest... |
Our
rental house ... |
...
and Mt. Baker to the north ... |
A bike
ride through one of the parks in Vancouver brought me to a
secluded pond full of ducks and waterlilies. |
The
skyline of Vancouver surprised us. There are new,
glass, residential towers overlooking the harbor for miles
along the shoreline. |
There
were houseboats in the harbour... |
...
and boats as big as houses.... |
A
parting shot as we left Lummi Island on the Ferry back to
the mainland |
