On to
Jim Jim and Barramundi Falls
and then

Yellow Water

03/27/08

We drove our 4WD vehicle over the most ridiculous track you can imagine to get to Jim Jim falls.  We then hiked in from a parking lot for about a half an hour to get to the actual plunge pool at the base of the falls.  The water was a little cold for me, but my bride didn't hesitate and jumped in and swam over to the falls.  Barramundi falls was
a more pleasant drive and walk plus the falls and pool are in the sun which made them a lot more inviting.
The falls plunge 210 meters into the pool at the base of this rock face. Mary at the plunge pool....
It was cool even for Mary! The outlet from Barramundi Falls.....

Barramundi Falls....

....not a site you are likely to see very often....

The creek that flows out of the falls is crystal clear.... It's also full of crocs at some times of the year.  They assured us all of the crocs were gone before we went swimming.  Of course we had all signed waivers....
We got to see a few Black-necked Storks or Jabiru as they are called locally.  I think the Jabiru sounds much better, don't you? This bad boy glided on by and crawled onto the bank under
an overhanging tree.  He is over four meters long.

No, this isn't a stuffed croc.  They sit this way to cool off.  Click here to continue our Top End Adventures!
